Jacqui's Captive Bred Tortoises

This page is a continuation of genuine feedback from families who have had a baby tortoise/s from me, I hope that it gives the reader confidence in the service I provide both before and after you have a baby from me. Pet shops and garden centres will not provide a service like this and once you have bought your farmed tortoise will not be available with knowledge and skill to advise you after your purchase, where as I will!

Anyway, what follows gives you a flavour of where my babies have gone, how far I have travelled, at times, to deliver them and what people have said about thier babies.

1. I just want to say thank you. We bought Rosie as a present for our 7yr old son who absolutely loves her to pieces. My 8yr old daughter loves her too in fact we all do we could sit and watch her for ever she is amazing. So thank you for all your help and advice you have given us novices we love our new member of the family and we will keep in touch if we need any more advice. the McCann’s, proud parents of Rosie.

Baby Tilly seems to be settling in her new home nicely.
We would certainly recommend you as a captive breeder to any one who is searching for a tortoise.  
Your website is very informative from About Me to Tortoise Shopping List. 
It was a long wait when you put us on the waiting list for a baby, but it was well worth it.
We know we have a baby that has had a good start in her long life ahead, we feel she is healthy,
clean and stress free and also so much fun to have. So glad  after our market research we didn’t  buy from a shop!

 5. Having taken delivery of our wonderful Hermann's tortoise I would just like to thank you Jacqui for all  the help and advice you have given us.

Our baby tortoise is so healthy and fit she really is a credit to your care and professionalism. We are so glad we did not buy a tortoise from a shop as we know we can call on you if we ever have a concern or need advice.

6. Sophia has named her Tortoise Tobee, we are thrilled to bits with her, she was much happier when we woke her this morning. She had a little walk in the sun on the garden yesterday and today she was much more interested in her breakfast. I think she will enjoy her life with us but yesterday she was still missing her old home and the loving care that you gave her.

I have waited years to have a tortoise and would love to get some more in the future. I'm so pleased to have bought Tobee from you. It is so important that we can come to you for advice because as you say the pet shops often sell you the wrong stuff and give you the wrong advice. There is always some customer expert ready to advise you as well and by the time you leave you are more confused than ever

She is a delight to watch.

There is so much advice on your website it makes life so much easier.

Are there any books that you know of that would advise on binging up a baby tortoise? If you haven’t written one you really should.

7. We’ve now bought two tortoises from Jacqui and wanted to say a quick public thank you for all the information, support, advice, and friendliness you’ve given us since we first made contact to find out some basic information about getting our own little shelled housemate.

After Mavis was delivered last year we soon realised just how wonderful and interactive a pet a tortoise makes; and were pleasantly surprised by just how much personality she has.

Less then a year later we’ve just today taken delivery of Vera, our second tortoise, and so are grateful all over again for all the emails, photos, and progress reports you’ve sent through up until today letting be part of her journey from egg to arriving in our living room.

Your dedication to these great little animals is truly astounding, and it’s been great to have you at the end of the phone, or contactable by email to raise the odd little query about food, heat lamps and a few other bits and pieces.

Whilst that’s probably it now for our tortoise buying, we continue to appreciate all you’ve done for us, and we would whole-heartedly recommend you to anyone who’s looking to buy themselves or their family a pet tortoise.

We would just like to give you some feedback for your website as we have appreciated everything you have done for us.  We want to say a very big thank you.  We have a beautiful baby tortoise who is loved dearly.  You have been so nice to deal with, very friendly and replying to any small query we have almost instantly either by email or telephone. Your expert advise and professionalism is invaluable.  We also appreciate the time spent with us when you delivered our tortoise and things didn't quite go to plan due to us not checking the bulb beforehand.  You didn't leave us in the lurch, you waited until we got a replacement and were up and running. This meant a lot to us as novices.  It is great to have that peace of mind knowing you are there to help with any queries we might have.  The service you provide is second to none, and just shows how devoted you are to the welfare of tortoises.

9. I would just like to say a big thank you for my two new babies 'Cagney and Lacey'.

Jacqui is so friendly and you don't feel your being a nuisance if your worried about something, or that you are forever asking questions. 

I've only had them for 4 days but they seem part of the family already. One (Lacey) is very bossy (definitely in charge)  and a bit of a porker when it comes to feeding time and the other is very laid back and nothing fazes her.

If anyone is thinking of buying a Tortoise then Jacqui is definitely a top choice. She really cares about them before, and, especially after they have flown the nest!!!

10. "Just  two weeks ago we took delivery of our baby Hermanns Tortoise, 'Lotte' from Jacqui. In this short time she has become a cherished addition to our family.
Although, a tortoise was my idea, my wife and three young daughters have taken her to heart, to the extent that I don't get a look in at times!
After researching the subject , one thing stood out as a pre-requisite, that I would contact an approved captive breeder. Ethically this felt right and also ensured that we would get a healthy, problem free baby.
In choosing to approach Jacqui, I made an excellent choice. Her patience, knowledge and  dedication to tortoise welfare has been inspiring and invaluable during our preparation and the first two weeks of looking after Lotte.

11. We cannot thank you enough for all your help and advise for our beautiful tortie!
I contacted you almost a year ago and now we have our Rita. She is fabulous! So
inquisitive, she is very active! Loves climbing and surprisingly to me really seems
to enjoy her baths (shes had 2 this week). She is amazing to watch, our daughter
loves talking to her and our little boy stares at her for ages before blowing kisses
and goes off to play.

12. Hi Jacqui i just wanted to say a HUGE THANKS for all your help and support, from guiding us through making the enclosure, right through to how best to look after my baby :) Tilly is really happy and is doing fantastically well but all thanks to your expertise, help and advice.
I have and will reccommend anyone thinking of buying a tortoise to read through this site first and secondly ask any questions you have as Jacqui is superb at answering them all!!! even the seemingly stupid ones :) .... I came across Jacqui’s website via Preloved, while researching the possibility of getting a tortoise. Jacqui was so helpful from the outset, and having seen her site and finding out about her carefully-nurtured captive breds, we couldn’t consider getting a baby from anywhere else. Even my 9 year old son was prepared to wait the 5 months that it took to receive our baby. It was well worth the wait! Petal  is the most adorable, healthy little tort ever.

Jacqui’s considerable first-hand knowledge has been invaluable in getting the right set-up for the baby. Her contacts have also been fantastic – we got a super tortoise table from Secret Garden Woodcraft; bought opuntia plants from Steve (which the baby goes mad for); and I must visit thetortoisetable.org.uk daily!  Everything you need to know is on Jacqui’s website. The fact that Jacqui drives around the country to hand deliver your baby is testament to how far she will go to ensure its wellbeing, and more importantly she is always there for ongoing support - especially in those early days as an anxious new mother!

If you are considering getting a baby tortoise, get yourself on Jacqui’s waiting list. You won’t regret it.

14. "The support we have received has been fantastic. Firstly, before hand we asked many questions (as we were new to owning a tortoise) and we always got brilliant advice back. Minnie Bea was delivered by Jacqui where she explained all her paperwork and ran through any questions we had. She stayed for a while to get to know us and to see Minie Bea settle in. Minnie Bea is a beautiful little thing with such a lovely personality. Shes settled in well to family life, which I beleive is a result from care and love she received from the 1st few months of her life"

15. "We had our first baby Hermanns, Rita, from Jacqui back in January 2011 and she was a pleasure from the word go. I thought i loved torts before we had ours but since Rita arrived, i fallen even more in love with them and just had to get a sister for her. So easter monday Jacqui brought our new baby to us. Weve named her Sunny and she is gorgeous! It has taken her a few days to settle in but now i think she is used to her new home and both Rita and Sunny are now making friends, i think! Its been so nerve racking watching them, Rita had a slight sulk when Sunny first arrived but has now accepted her, they follow each other around sometimes but seem to know when to leave each other alone. Im quite keen on my garden and plants etc but since ive had "the girls" ive learnt so much about whats safe, toxic etc but there is something to learn all the time which is what i love so much. Now the lovely weather is pretty much here Rita and Sunny love to be out in their garden we have created for them which is a rockery, they love the small rocks to get up on and bask in the sunshine. I get really caught up watching them and the kids absolutely them too. Jacqui has been a great support and i know she will continue to be so for as long as i need, she really is a fab lady! I cant thank you enough Jacqui for all your help and supoport. Such a dedicated lady to her torts, Jacqui really cares for her babies and nothing is ever too much trouble for her. As Jacqui keeps her location private, quite rightly too, im unable to send her anything as a big thank you, so Jacqui im afraid it'll have to be a big virtual bunch of flowers and bottle of wine! lol! If anyone is thinking about getting a tortosie or extending their tort family and you want a happy, healthy tort, i cannot recommend Jacqui highly enough. You wont be dissappointed with her or her tortoises. Thanks again Jacqui and all the best with you and your torts, look forward to keeping in touch.

16.You have kept me updated every week on our baby tortoise's well being, weight and general info - ie: she can be a little lazy ha ha.  All of my questions have been answered extremely promptly.  Your love and care of animal welfare is huge and this has shown in all your communications which has made me feel extremely confident in my purchase as a huge animal lover also.
Throughout the whole process of our baby tortoise - Tallulah, being hatched to being delivered, both  my husband and I have felt really lucky to be dealing with yourself Jacqui - and as corny as this may sound it is true!!
There isn't anything I could suggest you do differently at all I am afraid!!

17. We had our first baby tortoise from Jacqui and as this was all new to us we needed a little help and support. Jacqui was always available with advice, which was very important to us. When we had our second baby tortoise, also from Jacqui, we were a bit more experienced, but knew that the support is there if we need it. As she genuinely cares about the welfare of her tortoises she gives ongoing support, not just for a short while. The help on providing a suitable home and how to feed them is also very clear and useful, which is important when you consider that there is a lot of inaccurate information available on the internet. We have had 2 healthy and confident tortoises from Jacqui and if we were to have more we would not go elsewhere.”

I decided to look after a tortoise during the spring of this year, I found Jacqui by chance really as I had been in search for a breeder in my area for some time and I discovered Jacqui’s site via google. I was really impressed by what I saw on her the site and decided to contact Jacqui and requested to be added to her waiting list. Jacqui advised and educated me in preparation for the arrival of my Hermann hatchling, whist providing me with updates and the odd photo after the baby had hatched, I am likely to always use Jacqui’s website as a reference tool and I know that Jacqui will remain only an e-mail, phone call or text away should I still require any further support.
I can completely recommend Jacqui as a breeder and “tortoise educator”
